Entrepreneur Duong Minh DungOwner of the Largest Dong Nai Chicken Farm in the United States

When he first set foot on American soil in 1995, Mr. Duong Minh Dung, then under 40, worked as a laborer for a canned goods company to earn a living. He later transitioned to selling tacos (a Mexican dish) while also taking on various odd jobs such as dog bathing and night-time babysitting. In 2000, while buying live chickens and ducks from a local market to cook, he noticed people selling chicks. On a whim, he bought some to raise as pets at home, feeding them corn, rice, and living in his backyard. In the area where he lived, corn and grain were abundant and cheap, which led Mr. Dung to conceive the idea of raising free-range chickens for business. At the time, a friend lent him a 10-acre piece of land, so he fenced a corner and bought 100 chicks to raise there. Four months later, he brought the chickens home for cooking, and everyone praised the delicious taste of the meat, noting it was different from the American chicken. Encouraged by this, he bought more chicks to raise. On weekends, he and his wife would catch the chickens, pluck their feathers by hand just as they used to in Vietnam, and sell them to friends and acquaintances. Thus, the Dong Nai Chicken farm was born.
